An IBM Business Consulting Services CFO survey suggests that the role of the CFO is expected to change significantly over the next few years, but finds that CFOs today are unprepared for it

Most claim they lack key skills and staff, and that IT is significantly under-exploited.

Only 50% felt that their finance organisations comprised high quality, professionals, with more than a third believing that their organisations were understaffed, or that their existing staff were underskilled.

A significant challenge highlighted in the survey was that business performance management processes were not keeping pace with business complexity. More than 70% of CFOs indicated that information is a major asset that needs to be managed better, while only 20% of business managers had access to integrated enterprise data to aid in decision making.
