China has reported a $11.4bn trade surplus for the month of April

This economic data will add to the tensions between China and America relating to China’s currency value and the trade imbalance.

Many economists believe that the Chinese government suppresses the value of the Yuan, which gives Chinese exporters an unfair advantage.

The value of the Yuan has been more flexible in recent months but the news of this huge trade surplus comes at a very sensitive time as the US/China Strategic Economic Dialogue is currently taking place in Washington.

Some commentators suspect that China may be using the trade surplus as a bargaining tool to allow more technology exports into China.

Chinese exports for April were valued at $155.7bn while imports came to $144.3bn.
