NORDIC REGION CAPTIVES

New facility announced

Marsh has established a captive insurance management and advisory facility in Copenhagen to serve the Nordic region. The captive solutions practice is headed by Lars Andersen, a past chairman of DARIM, the Danish Risk Managers Association.

Marsh plans to expand its Nordic regional captive operations beyond Copenhagen and expects to begin that expansion with the opening of a dedicated captive management office in Sweden by the year end.

EU ENVIRONMENT

Response to Directive

Spain, Germany and Italy are leading the way in the implementation of the EU Environmental Liability Directive and are consequently showing the most interest in purchasing environmental cover. This is in contrast to the UK, where insurers report that operators have shown very little interest in the Directive.

The EU Environmental Liability Directive, which is based on the 'polluter pays' principle, establishes a liability framework for various categories of environmental damage.
