Lloyd's managing agent Hardy is expected to more than double the amount of non-marine business it writes in 2003.

Hardy is anticipating non-marine gross income of £18.9m in 2003. This compares to non-marine gross income of just under £8m in 2002.

The insurer will finalise the appointment of new non-marine underwriter Tim Bartleet, who joins from Advent, in the fourth quarter of this year.

Chief executive Barbara Merry said that the expansion of the non-marine business formed part of the insurer's plan to "diversify its book of business".

The insurer is also expecting to double its marine business in 2003. Marine gross income is expected to reach £34.65m in 2003, compared to around

£16.5m in 2002. Gross income from aviation business is expected to total £35m in 2003, compared to just over £23.4m in 2002.

Most of the income will be generated by the general aviation account, as Merry confirmed that Hardy would only write a "small amount" of airline business.
