The Federation of European Risk Management Associations (FERMA) is expecting a possible record number of participants

Registrations by the end of August had already topped 650, significantly higher than two years previously when the Forum took place in Rome.

The largest proportion of participants will come from countries, such as Belgium, France, Germany, Switzerland and the UK, where risk management is well established, but there is also considerable interest from new and proposed European Union members. The theme of the conference is 'Europe, the World and the Future: Opportunities for Risk Management'.

Russia and Sweden, whose risk management associations have become members of FERMA within the last two years, will be well represented in Lisbon.

In addition, risk managers from countries such as the Czech Republic, Malta, Poland, Romania, the Slovak Republic, Slovenia and Turkey, which do not yet have a FERMA member association, will be participating as individuals.

A number of these countries are in the course of establishing associations that are likely in time to join FERMA.

This year, the FERMA Forum is taking place as a joint session with the International Federation of Risk and Insurance Management Associations (IFRIMA). The programme is available from the FERMA website at www.ferma-asso.org Gregory Case, who took over from the legendary Pat Ryan as CEO of Aon this spring, is to take part in the broker panel discussion at the Forum The debate, in which Case and senior brokers from Marsh, Willis and EOS RISQ are taking part, is entitled: 'Brokerage in the storm, turning a nightmare into an opportunity'. It asks the brokers to reflect on how they can turn the upheaval resulting from New York state attorney general Eliot Spitzer's investigations into an opportunity by seeking to redefine a business model which had probably needed revisiting for some time.
