North American recall due to a fault with power steering

Mazda is to recall 300,000 vehicles across North America following a fault with the power-steering system, according to reports.

The Japanese car maker said the recall involved the 2007-2009 model Mazda 3s and Mazda 5s. It covers about 200,000 cars in the US and 100,000 in Canada and Mexico.

The vehicles may suffer from a sudden loss of power steering, said the car maker, making it difficult to steer and increasing the risk of accidents.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has been investigating the steering problems.
