A new report from the Information Security Forum (ISF) highlights the security risks presented by the rapid growth of instant messaging (IM) in the corporate environment
The report points to poor identity management, weak user authentication, inadequate logging and limited encryption as problems with most IM applications.
In addition, there are inherent weaknesses with many types of IM infrastructures.
And when it comes to the management of IM systems, the ISF found a lack of awareness of the potential risks.
In the report the ISF has developed and detailed a five-step process to secure IM services: www.securityforum.org.
