The new IRM membership structure that brings the status of the IRM's professional designations in line with many other membership organisations takes effect from the new membership year, starting 1 Ju

The structure reflects growth in the IRM's range of products, following the launch in 2005 of the Certificate in Risk Management (CIRM), and employers' perceptions of the relative value and level of each grade of membership.

Consequently, the grade of Associate (AIRM) will be discontinued and in future all holders of the principal qualification, the IRM Diploma, will be designated as either Graduate (GradIRM) or Member (MIRM), depending upon their personal level of professional experience.

Sheila Boyce, chair of the IRM's membership committee, says, "In developing the new structure, we have listened long and hard to members' views and those of major employers and recruitment consultancies."
