A US teacher has been charged with falsifying medical disability slips

Stephanie Grantham, of Visalia, has been charged with one count of felony workers' compensation fraud and sentenced to 90 days in jail for falsifying medical disability slips in order to receive temporary disability benefits.

Investigators allege that Grantham, who was an employee of Porterville Unified School District at the time of the original work injury, was falsifying medical documents in order to extend her workers' compensation benefits.

The District was alerted to the discrepancies in the medical documents and then filed with insurance brokerage Keenan & Associates.

Grantham appeared in court on January 28, 2008 along with her attorney, and agreed to reimburse the District for the period of temporary disability received in question. In dispute remains the issue of reimbursement to the District for other expenses.
