A massive earthquake drill is set for November 13 in Los Angeles

The Great Southern California ShakeOut, a week of special events featuring a massive earthquake drill at 10.00 on 13 November 2008 in Los Angeles, will be a realistic portrayal of what could happen in a major earthquake on the southern end of the San Andreas Fault. The drill will use the ShakeOut scenario, based on a hypothetical Magnitude 7.8 earthquake originating near the Salton Sea, killing 1,800 people, injuring 50,000 and causing $200 billion in damage. Earthquake Country Alliance, the sponsor, hopes to involve at least 5 million participants.
