The Massachusetts v EPA case, brought by 12 states and 13 environmental groups, petitioned the EPA to begin regulating the emissions of greenhouse gases from cars.

The Supreme Court ruled that under the Clean Air Act the EPA was authorized to regulate greenhouse gas emissions.

Law-now, a legal website, says that environmental campaigners in the US appear to have overcome the lack of new legislative limits on greenhouse gas emissions by challenging the interpretation of existing legislation.
