Dreamliner makes emergency landing in latest damage to Boeing’s reputation
A further blow has been dealt to aerospace manufacturer Boeing after one of its 787 Dreamliners was forced to make an emergency landing in Japan.
The incident is the latest in a string of problems for the reputation of Boeing’s marquee aircraft which has been plagued by production delays and a number of technical problems discovered in aircraft across the globe.
The 787 was travelling from Ube to Tokyo when it was forced to make an emergency landing at Takamatsu airport after cockpit alarms signalled both irregular battery activity and that there was smoke in the forward electrical compartment.
As a result of the latest incident, Japan’s leading flight operators, All Nippon and Japan Airlines, will ground their Dreamliner fleets through to Thursday.
Just last week a fire broke out on a Japan Airlines 787 craft after it landed in Boston. The fire is believed to have started after a battery in the plane’s auxiliary power system overheated.
