IRM chief executive Steve Fowler, who attended the annual meeting of the Risk and Insurance Management Society (RIMS), this year in Honolulu, says, "RIMS runs what is certainly the world's biggest conference on insurable risk. This year's event was no different, bringing together insurers, brokers, service providers and risk managers from across the US and neighbouring countries. For me however, the real benefit came from a week of networking. It never fails to amaze me how insular many professions can be, yet this is not an accusation that can be levied at risk management, with lessons from one country increasingly applied to the rest of us.

"The highlight of the event was ex-Enron whistleblower, Lynn Brewer, who spoke candidly about the culture and circumstances that led to that firm's collapse and the lessons for organisations everywhere as a result. Those attending the IRM's Risk Forum in Keele, Staffordshire, on 18-20 September will have an opportunity to hear Lynn themselves."
