We are at a loss to understand why we were on the protesters hit list, says chief exec Steve Fowler

The Institute of Risk Management (IRM) was included on the G20 protesters’ map as a target. The IRM, however, is mystified as to why it was targeted.

The Institute’s chief executive, Steve Fowler said: ‘We are at a loss to understand why we are on the list. The Institute’s role is to educate people about risks and risk management.’

‘Perhaps they are confusing us with someone else in the same way that vigilantes confuse paediatricians with paedophiles,’ he quipped.

‘There is a lesson for risk management professionals from our experience,’ added Fowler. ‘We saw ourselves as low risk, but a risk has now arisen because others have a different agenda.’

Thousands of protesters took to the streets of London to mark the G20 summit of world leaders. Some of the protests descended into violent battles with the police which saw one man collapse and die. A retail branch of the state-owned Royal Bank of Scotland (RBS) near the Bank of England was also vandalised.
